My Lovely Friends and Fam!
Sister Lichtenberg + I took a quick trip to Jamaica this week for a Zone Conference. I knew we were in Jamaica when the first thing the immigration officer said to me was, "You single?" Hahaha jamaican men are something else.
On another note, our Area Seventy, Elder Alvarado and his wife, came to speak to us + it was SO GOOD. He is such an inspired man who is truly led by the Spirit in everything he does. He wants us to try to get another stake in Jamaica in 60 DAYS. That's pretty wild, but the missionary work is definitely picking up. Elder Alvarado said it's time to elevate ourselves so that we can elevate others. He spoke about how essential it is for us to use the members in missionary work + help those members who don't have a solid testimony to gain one. Everyone has questions, but we need to cling to what we know + look for answers in the right places.
One of my favorite things that he talked about is that we need to take the slums + bring the light. We are missionaries in a pretty difficult area, full of people who have nothing. There is a lot of violence + worldliness + wickedness. He said instead of taking the light out of the slums, we have been called to bring light to the slums. It doesn't matter where you are in the world, when you have the gospel of Jesus Christ, you have LIGHT. Later on he said something that was so so powerful that really hit me. He said "I've never seen the Savior, but I have seen 15 men who walk the Earth who look like the Savior. They walk like Christ. They talk like Christ. They testify of Christ." We have evidence of Jesus Christ all around us. NOW is the time to elevate ourselves because He's coming soon. We need to do all we can so that when others see us, they see that light of Christ.
A few random things!
-I've learned through Joseph Smith's example that asking questions ALLLL the time is so important!
-Wise words from our friend Alpha. "If you have a bad week, just get rid of it."
-Our water is now slightly, yes just slightly, less disgusting than last week. Appreciate America, my friends!
-We helped our good friend Ben paint his house in the blazing hot sun. I've sweat more on my mission than I thought was humanly possible. Ha gross!
Missions are so fun + full of so many of the best memories EVER! The Church is true + life is too good.
Lots of Love,
Sister Allen
-STL's picking us up from the airport!
-Our land lord let us shower in her fancy guest house when our water was out.
-Flight home from Jamaica!!
